The Panel on Darülaceze and Its Founder Sultan Abdulhamid II, Held on the 131st Anniversary of Its Establishment, Was Hosted by Darülaceze
The compassion of Sultan Abdulhamid II, founder of Darülaceze, along with his vision of the social state and emphasis on knowledge, was discussed through academic presentations.
The opening speeches of the panel were delivered by Darülaceze President Esra Ceceli İslam, President of the Turkish Manuscripts Institution Coşkun Yılmaz, Vice Rector of Yıldız Technical University Prof. Dr. Ahmet Göksel Ağargün, Rector of the University of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Aydın, and Deputy Governor of Istanbul Hasan Gözen.
The program was also attended by Şişli District Governor Cevdet Ertürkmen, as well as faculty members and students from the University of Health Sciences and Yıldız Technical University.
In her opening remarks, Esra Ceceli İslam emphasized the importance of the panel, stating: “Today, we look at the past not only with nostalgia, but by bringing together perspectives of history, culture, and social services. For this reason, I find it highly valuable that our panel has been organized in cooperation with Yıldız Technical University and the University of Health Sciences. I sincerely believe it will contribute to deepening historical truth, strengthening our institutional memory, and opening new horizons in social services.”
Following the opening speeches, the panel session chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cihan featured:
- Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Aydın on Sultan Abdulhamid II’s vision of healthcare,
- Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım on the historical development of the Darülaceze Institution,
- Prof. Dr. Mehmet Metin Hülagü on Sultan Abdulhamid II and his era.
