Historic Okmeydanı Campus

The Darülaceze Okmeydanı Campus is a historical campus structure designed on a horizontal plane, covering an area of 27,000 m2. It forms the historical core of Darülaceze, which was established in 1895 by the will of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. Since its establishment, it has offered a living space in the heart of Istanbul that is slow, serene, and based on human dignity, in contrast to the speed of the city.

Who does it serve?

The Okmeydanı Campus provides comprehensive care and support services, especially for applicants from within Istanbul, according to the conditions specified in the Darülaceze Regulations:

  • Elderly individuals who can take care of themselves
  • Semi- or fully dependent individuals
  • Children aged 0-3 under the protection of the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

Each individual is evaluated according to their health status, social needs, and psychosocial characteristics and directed to suitable living areas within the campus.

Physical Structure

  • 7 adult care blocks
  • 1 child care unit
  • Polyclinic and clinic service building
  • Rehabilitation and production workshops
  • Mosque, church and synagogue – architectural representation of the culture of coexistence
  • Social infrastructure such as laundry, Turkish bath, dining hall and barber shop
  • Conference hall, visitor center, rest areas and walking paths

  • Ramped and flat floor design for transitions between blocks
  • Security camera systems and emergency call infrastructure
  • Fire alarm system and automatic sprinklers

  • Internal access roads suitable for transporting personnel and patients
